A Versatile Spice: THE CLOVE

Clove

The versatile Clove has been a prized spice for centuries. Native to the Malucca Islands, the clove, one of the most precious spices of the 16th and 17th centuries, has been found to be traded for centuries, even spurring expeditions and wars. By the 18th century, everyone was growing it and the Dutch were losing thier monopoly in the trade.

The clove can be used to treat numerous ailments, I will cover a few here and add video tutorials at a later date.

The clove is an antiseptic, analgesic, antiviral, local anesthetic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-parasitic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory. Among other treatments, it has been used to treat nausea, toothache, cavities, abscess tooth, mouth sores, headache, sore throat, dandruff, cuts, scrapes, sore muscles, strains, acne, styes, ease coughs, wounds, athletes foot, scabies, fungal infections, induce sleep, aphrodisiac. This list is not all-inclusive.

As I’m sure you know, most medications find their origin in the plant families, you see corporations are  unable to patent nature, and a patent ensures maximum profit, regardless if there is a safer alternative (like the actual plant). So drug companies find and focus on one or a couple of substances, zero in on those, synthesize and mass produce their medications, many times without even understanding how the mechanism of action works and disregarding the many other synergistic properties of the plant.

One of these substances is EUGENOL, which you will find in many commercially produced toothache/mouth sore applications. Defined as:

eu·ge·nol : aromatic liquid made from clove oil, used as a dental analgesic.

What these big companies succeed in doing is hiding the natural and safe benefits of nature. Making, you, the consumer completely dependent on their “professional medical advice”. I am here to help you become empowered in your own health care and wean yourself off of the “sick care” industry. Here are some basic applications, ones I use regularly in my own home.

Immune boosting tea : some whole cloves, star anise and cinnamon stick , simmer for about 15 minutes, add some raw honey and enjoy

as an antiseptic instead of neosporin: mix some organic coconut oil with organic ground cloves and place of cuts and scrapes, this works great for pain relief too.

for toothache, cavities or abscess I used ground cloves instead of penicillin.

As a compress: simmer chamomile, whole cloves on stove for 15 minutes, let cool. Place a washcloth and use on sprains and strains.

Feel free to comment with any questions, this list is by no means all inclusive.
