Obesity:

  • Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years.1, 2
  • The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period.1, 2
  • In 2010, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.1
  • Overweight is defined as having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors.3 Obesity is defined as having excess body fat.4
  • Overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors.5,6

A National Chronic Disease Crisis: The Time to Act is Now

Our nation faces a crisis due to the burden of chronic disease. Today, 7 of the 10 leading causes of death in the United States are chronic diseases, and nearly 50% of Americans live with at least one chronic illness. People who suffer from chronic conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and arthritis experience limitations to function, health, activity, and work. These limitations affect the quality of their lives, as well as the lives of their families.

Six easy ways to sweeten food without using refined sugar or artificial sweeteners

(NaturalNews) Sugar is everywhere. And if you have a sweet tooth, it can be quite difficult to avoid it in one of its many refined forms, as it is added to all sorts of processed foods. But not all sugar is bad, and there are many ways to sweeten food without going over the edge, and sometimes without even having to use sugar or a sugar substitute. Here are seven easy ways you can sweeten up foods and drinks without resorting to refined sugars or artificial sweeteners, both of which are linked to health problems:

1) Stevia extract. Said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar by volume, stevia extract is one of the easiest and healthiest ways to sweeten up foods, and particularly beverages, without having to use sugar. Rich in antioxidants such as apidenin, kaempferol and quercitrin, stevia extract works particularly well at sweetening tea, coffee, yerba mate, and various other beverages. And since it contains no sugar and a zero glycemic index, diabetics and others trying to avoid sugar can safely use it without incurring any harmful side effects. (http://www.naturalnews.com/023728_stevia_sweetener_FDA.html)

Just be sure to use only real, pure stevia extract from companies like Wisdom Natural Sweet Leaf, Stevita, or Wholesome Sweeteners, as these brands do not parse and manipulate their stevia like Truvia (Coca-Cola and Cargill) and Pure Via (Pepsico and Merisant) do. Pure stevia extract also typically does not contain processed fillers like dextrose, cellulose powder, and erythritol, all of which are commonly derived from genetically-modified organisms (GMOs).

2) Raw, unrefined honey. If sugar itself is not completely off limits for your diet, raw, unrefined honey is an excellent alternative to table sugar or artificial sweeteners. Rich in healing enzymes, antibacterial components, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and phytonutrients, unprocessed honey is an amazing alkaline-forming food that can naturally sweeten food without spiking blood sugar levels and creating a “sugar rush.” (http://www.naturalnews.com/026847_honey_raw_food.html)

When cooking or baking with honey, Prevention magazine recommends substituting only about one-third of the sugar for honey. For the other two-thirds, you can use a healthier, unrefined form of sugar such as evaporated cane juice or coconut sugar, both of which are high in nutrients and elicit a low glycemic index.

3) Himalayan pink salt. Believe it or not, adding a little bit of unrefined sea salt or Himalayan pink salt to your morning smoothie, sweet potato pie, fruit salad, or other sweet beverage or dish can actually enhance its natural sweetness without the need for sugar. Not only does salt help cover up the bitterness inherent in certain foods, but it also causes the natural sweetness of many foods to become more enhanced, which means less sugar is needed to bring them to the desired taste level.

This is the precise reason why many people sprinkle a little bit of salt on watermelon, lemon, and other fruits before eating them — salt essentially increases the brain’s ability to process the sensation of sweetness, which in turns makes naturally sweet foods taste sweeter. (http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2009/11/04/2732686.htm)

4) Raw cream. Similar to how salt brings out the natural sweetness of foods while suppressing bitterness, a little bit of raw cream can do the same thing for coffee, soup, stew, pie and various other foods without the need for added sugar. The lactose found in raw cream is a type of natural sugar that adds a slight sweet kick to food without going overboard on the sugar content.

Raw, organic, non-homogenized cream is preferable to most store-bought varieties of cream; however, as this form of cream contains the necessary lactase enzyme required to properly break down lactose. Pasteurized cream does not contain lactase, which can cause digestive upset and other health problems in people with lactose intolerance.

5) Dates. Both date paste and date sugar make excellent sugar substitutes in salad dressings, baked goods, desserts, and other foods that typically call for sugar as an ingredient. Though they obviously contain their own natural sugars, dates are a healthier form of sweetness that also happens to add a delightfully soft texture to foods. Dates also tend to have a milder sweetness with less overall sugar content compared to common table sugar, and yet can still be used instead of table sugar at a 1:1 ratio. (http://www.organicspark.com)

6) Luo han guo. A native to China, the luo han guo fruit, also known as the “longevity fruit,” is an all-natural sweetener that, just like stevia extract, is roughly 300 times sweeter than sugar by volume. Long utilized as a natural healing remedy for many centuries throughout the Asian world, luo han guo can not only take the place of sugar in food and beverages — luo han guo is commonly sold as the all-natural sweetener “lakanto” for this purpose — but it can also be used as a medicine to help deter the aging process, fight free radical damage, and actually promote healthy blood sugar levels.

Mangos fight breast cancer and Diabetes (NaturalNews)

mango-lg2

(NaturalNews) The most popular fresh fruit in the world, mangoes are a whole lot more than just a delicious, refreshing treat produced by nature. As evidenced by copious scientific research, mangoes are also a powerful medicinal food, as they contain nutrients that can help clear up skin, promote eye health, stave off diabetes, and even prevent the formation and spread of cancer.

Research recently presented at a meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), for instance, revealed that eating mangoes every day can help moderate and even lower blood sugar levels, despite their natural sugar content. This is good news for people with type 2 diabetes who may benefit from consuming mangoes regularly as part of a low-sugar diet.

For their study, researchers tested the effects of mangoes on a group of obese animals, some of whom were given 10 grams of freeze-dried mango every day for 12 weeks. At the end of three months, the blood sugar levels of those animals that consumed mango were compared to those that did not consume mango. Based on the data, mango consumption was found to result in a significant decline in blood sugar levels.

“Although the mechanism by which mango exerts its effects warrants further investigation, we do know that mangoes contain a complex mixture of polyphenolic compounds,” says Dr. Edralin Lucas, Ph.D., author of the study.

Similar research out of Australia found back in 2006 that eating mango can also help decrease inflammation and resulting high cholesterol, as well as block the formation of various health conditions included under the banner of metabolic syndrome. In essence, mangoes actually work better than cholesterol drugs at naturally balancing and optimizing cellular function throughout the body.

“We don’t know yet how the whole thing’s going to play out but we know some of the individual components (of mango) activate these receptors and even inhibit them,” said a doctor from University of Queensland about the effects of mango consumption on cellular processes. “That could end up with positive nutritional health benefits for diabetes and high cholesterol.”

And again in 2011, researchers from Oklahoma State University found that mango consumption helps lower insulin resistance and improve glucose tolerance in test mice. The same study also found that mangoes help normalize lipid levels throughout the blood, which in turn can help prevent the development of cardiovascular disease.

Eating mangoes can also help you avoid cancer

But the health benefits of mango do not stop here. Science has identified more than 4,000 different antioxidant polyphenols in the plant kingdom, and many of these polyphenols are present in mangoes. The primary benefit of these polyphenols is that they scavenge damaging free radicals and protect cells against damage, which is believed to facilitate and even promote cancer.

“If you look at [mango] from the physiological and nutritional standpoint, taking everything together, it would be a high-ranking superfood,” says Dr. Susanne Talcott, who together with her husband discovered back in 2010 that mango compounds target both colon and breast cancer cells.

“What we found is that not all cell lines are sensitive to the same extent to an anticancer agent. But the breast and colon cancer lines underwent apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Additionally, we found that when we tested normal colon cells side by side with the colon cancer cells, that the mango polyphenolics did not harm the normal cells.”

In other words, mango compounds effectively target and eliminate harmful cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone, a phenomenon that is unique to nature and nowhere to be found in pharmaceutical-based medicine. Chemotherapy and radiation, for instance, which are the two most popular conventional treatments for cancer, damage healthy cells along with malignant cells, which is why the treatments are a failure as far as long-term survival is concerned.

Adam Kokesh violently dragged from public protest by police, arrested for ‘resisting arrest’

(NaturalNews) Freedom activist Adam Kokesh of Adam vs. the Man was violently dragged from a “Smoke Down Prohibition” protest in Philadelphia just a few hours ago. According to his Facebook page, Adam is being charged with “resisting arrest” but is refusing to be booked for the charge which is obviously false.

The YouTube video of the arrest shows Adam Kokesh clearly NOT resisting, holding his hands up in a surrender posture and trying to maintain his balance while a gang of police drag him away from the event.

According to Adam Kokesh supporter “Brother Lucas,” Kokesh never even smoked pot during the protest, so his arrest is sending shockwaves across the liberty movement because it appears to be illegal and unjustified. The video seems to depict a lawless gang of badge-wearing thugs committing an act of kidnapping against someone merely exercising their free speech rights in a public forum. Details are still early and somewhat sketchy at this point, so we may learn more details that will provide additional clarity on why this happened and what excuse the police will come up with this time.

(Will the IRS investigate Kokesh next? Are there any limits to criminal government?)

A request on Kokesh’s Facebook page calls for supporters to “phone bomb” the Philadelphia Police Department Public Affairs office:

Phone bomb 215 686 3388 and demand Adam get a phone call and that he be released… we have yet to be in contact with him about 2 hours into it… I will keep everyone posted as I get more details! One love – Brotha Lucas

Adam Kokesh is, of course, the activist who has pre-announced an armed civil disobedience march on Washington D.C. on July 4th. The U.S. Supreme Court has ordered Washington D.C. lawmakers to legalize the concealed carry of firearms by non-felon citizens, but D.C. has so far refused to enact such a law. There is already widespread speculation that Adam Kokesh’s arrest may be intended to imprison him until July 4th passes in order to pre-empt the protest march.

If that’s true, the authorities have grossly miscalculated: such a move of obvious intimidation, oppression and civil rights violations will only further enrage a national public that’s already fed up with IRS criminality, Obama administration criminality, Department of Justice criminality and an ever-expanding atmosphere of police state intimidation, oppression and censorship.

If Adam Kokesh is not released in very short order, all hell is going to break loose in Philadelphia. Watch the video of the arrest and see for yourself just how close the crowd seems to attacking the criminal cops on the spot:

For the record, I am a strong supporter of local law enforcement… until they reach the point where they become a police state regime that violates civil rights and due process. At that point I am a vocal critic of the “criminal” police and support protesters and activists who help expose the corruption of power in law enforcement.

For police to have the support of the citizens, they must operate within the bounds of the law and respect due process. They do not have the authority to simply arrest and silence anyone they wish merely because they disagree with that person’s political views.

Is Tylenol suppressing your childs immune system??

Glutathione and Acetaminophen

“When your child gets a fever, he produces more white blood cells. These white blood cells are part of his immune system and they kill off the virus or bacteria that is making him sick. BMC Pediatrics say that fever increases the production of interferon, which has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. So if you suppress a fever with medication, you are actually limiting your child’s ability to fight the infection…In animal experiments, if sick animals are allowed to have a fever, they have an increased survival rate compared with animals who had their fever suppressed, so I always welcomed my children’s (rare) fevers as a sign their immune system was working correctly.”
